Sepsis enhanced diagnosis and recovery to decrease mortality and hospital readmissions: a mixed methods study
Sepsis outcomes depend both on how patients respond to infection and on the standard of care they receive, which relies on structured hospital workflows and decision-making processes. The Enhance Sepsis Care Study aims to improve the full patient journey – from diagnosis to recovery – by integrating clinical and system-level data.
This project will:
- Assess current sepsis care pathways in up to three hospitals in the Lisbon area (starting with Hospital Santa Maria)
- Identify and overcome barriers to implementing best practices
- Integrate laboratory tools at key stages to improve diagnosis and recovery
